The Wisdom Of Crowds

The author talks about the Columbia space shuttle accident in the section I read. It pointed out the NASA group that dismissed the possibility that any severe damage could have happened from the debris that hit the shuttle. He explains that this was an example of small a small group becoming dumber as a group instead of smarter. He also explains that being in a small group can actually cause polarization, which would the opposite idea of what a group is trying to accomplish. After explaining all this, he says there is a temptation not to use small groups at all because of the possible negative effects. There is a lot of responsibility that leaders and members of a small group have.
